Home-Start Orkney
Visitors to the library may have noticed a cheerful display of material about Home-Start Orkney, who are looking for more volunteers, particularly in Stromness and the West Mainland.
Home- Start is a national charity that recruits and trains volunteers to help families with young children. Volunteers who understand what it is like to be a parent, offer support to other parents by visiting them at home for a couple of hours each week. Families may approach Home-Start for support for many reasons and the charity will help any parent who asks for help - supported families, as well as volunteers, come from all walks of life.
If you would like to offer your time and parenting experience to help other families then why not find out more about volunteering with Home-Start Orkney?
Pick up a leaflet from the library or contact Home-Start Orkney by email at postmaster@homestartorkney.org.uk or visit the Home-Start website to find out more about the charity and its work.
And if you are a parent of young children (at least one child under five) and you feel you would benefit from some extra support, help, advice or friendship, then contact Home-Start and they will listen to your needs and help to match you with a suitable volunteer. As their leaflet says "There is no rulebook for raising a family", and sometimes a little extra support can make a big difference.
