Happy Folk Festival!

We would like to wish you all a very happy Orkney Folk Festival weekend!

Whether you are looking forward to hearing one of the many visiting acts, enjoying a session with some of our very own home grown Orkney talent, or just soaking up the atmosphere as Stromness buzzes with life and music, don't forget to visit the Stromness library, where you can borrow CDs of many of the star performers from previous years.

Did we mention that CD loans are now FREE!

So there's even more to enjoy in Stromness this Folk Festival weekend - all we need now is the sun to come out!

Folk Festival

Well the sun is shining in Stromness this morning and the organisers of the Orkney Folk Festival will be hoping it stays that way to add an extra sparkle to this year's weekend of events.

Yesterday our trip along the street to collect the papers was made through a street packed with folk - many carrying instrument cases. After the unusual quiet during the Hamnavoe's absence, it is great to see the town looking at its best in the spring sunshine and full of folk enjoying themselves.

For those of you unable to get tickets to the festival events or who have been and want to hear more from your favourite acts then why not pop into the library where we have a range of folk music cds available on loan - including many Orkney based musicians.

Wishing you all an enjoyable Folk Festival weekend in sunny Stromness.

Folk Festival

Walking along the street to collect the papers today we noticed the bunting is up in Stromness already. Puzzled, we suddenly remembered that the 30th Orkney Folk Festival begins tomorrow, Thursday 31st May, which explains everything, although the fact that the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations take place next week may also have something to do with it!

For those of you wanting to check out some of the acts performing at the Folk Festival we have CDs by many of the local performers, including Jeana Leslie & Siobhan Miller, The Wrigley Sisters, The Chair, Saltfishforty, Hadhirgaan, Shoramere, Emily Bourn, Jo Philby, and the Orkney Traditional Music Project. CDs are available for a two week loan period at a cost of 90p per CD.

Fingers crossed that the sun continues to shine for the Folk Festival weekend, and a toe tapping time is had by all!
